HOW TO COME OUT ON TOP

"The meek shall inherit the earth," said Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, quoting from Psalm 37:11. The world says that the meek described here will certainly be losers - that's no way to get ahead in this rough and rugged world! But God says they are the ones who come out on top!

Let us see who the "meek" are, and how they conduct their lives so successfully.

Body

I. They trust in the Lord implicitly (verses 3, 5).

   A. Psalm 62:5-8

   B. Psalm 84:11, 12.

   C. I Timothy 6:17.

II. They delight themselves in the Lord: doing what He wants is what gives them greatest pleasure (verse 4).

   A. Psalm 40:6-8.

   B. Psalm 119:16,35, 47, 92,143.

III. They commit their ways to the Lord (verse 5).

   A. Psalm 31:4, 5.

   B. Proverbs 16:3.

   C. I Peter 4:19.

IV. They rest in the Lord and wait patiently (verse 7).

   A. Psalm 62:5-8.

   B. Psalm 40:1-3.

   C. I Peter 5:6-11.

Conclusion

Do you want to "inherit the earth?" Here is a description of those who will! They trust in the Lord - and keep doing good. They delight in the Lord - and He gives them what pleases them most. They commit their ways to the Lord and trust in Him. They rest in the Lord - and wait patiently for Him to act. They will never be disappointed!
